Dr. Tomas Balkelis
Dr. Dainius Martuzevičius is a member of the association since its establishmen in 2009. He serves as an Associate Professor and a vice Dean for Research at the Faculty of Chemical technology, Kaunas University of Technology. He was a visiting scholar in the Department of Environmental Health at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, during 2002-2005. His research interests include application of nanotechnology and advanced oxidation processes towards the improvement of air quality. Recently, he has been coordinating Lithuanian actions in several major European and national research projects with the five year turnover of 1 mil Euros. He is the chairmen of the AFS board since 2016.
Dr. Tomas Balkelis is a senior researcher at the Institute of Lithuanian History in Vilnius. He received his Ph.D. in History at the University of Toronto in 2004. After graduation, he worked at the Universities of Manchester, Nottingham, Dublin and Vilnius. In 2015-2016 he was a visiting scholar at Stanford University. He is the author of The Making of Modern Lithuania (Routledge, 2009) and several other books. His articles among other journals have been published by Past and Present and Contemporary European History. He is working on the modern history of the Baltic states. He is the AFS Board member since 2016.
Dr. Darius Čeburnis graduated from Vilnius University, Lithuania in 1992 and received a PhD degree in natural sciences in 1997 from the Institute of Physics, Lithuania. He received a Young Scientists Award from the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences in 1999 for the research work carried out during the PhD candidate period based on peer-review papers. In 2001 Darius Ceburnis joined Atmospheric Research Group at the Department of Experimental Physics, National University of Ireland Galway, where he has been working since. He has co-authored two papers in the journal Nature and numerous articles in Geophysical Research Letters or other leading journals. The research excellence and collaborative efforts have been recognized with the Lithuanian National Science Award in 2012, the most prestigious award in Lithuania. Darius Ceburnis published 80 peer-review papers to-date and is am among the top 1% of cited authors in geosciences discipline in Thomson Reuters ISI Web of Science database with 1500 total citations in the last decade. Darius Ceburnis received an award from the Ministry for Education and Science of Lithuania for the research excellence and contributions to the Lithuanian community abroad in 2015. Darius Ceburnis was among the co-founders of the Association Futura Scientia in 2009 and served as a chairman of the board during 2010-2015.
Dr. Visvaldas Kairys studied at Vilnius University Chemistry Department as an undergraduate. Received his PhD at the University of Hawai'i in 1997. Afterwards worked in the field of computational chemistry in Iowa, Massachusetts, Maryland, and Portugal. Since 2011 he's a senior researcher at Vilnius University, Institute of Biotechnology. He is the AFS Board member since 2015.
Prof. Dr. Rasa Pauliukaitė graduated from Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences in 1991. She defended her master thesis in 1994 in the same University. She got her PhD from the Institute of Chemistry Vilnius in 1998. Rasa was working as a researcher at the same Institute until 2000. Her posdoctoral studies were in Karl-Franzens University, Graz, Austria (2000-2001) ; the National Institute of Chemistry, Ljubljana, Slovenia (2001-2002); ETH Zurich (2002-2003); and university of Coimbra, Coimbra, Portigal (2003- 2010). Since 2010 she came back to Lithuania and started her work as Senior Reseracher in the Center for Physical Science and Technology (FTMC). Since 2012 she is a Chief Researcher in FTMC and a Head of the Laboratory of Functional Nanomaterials. She was the AFS Board member in 2012-2014 ans since 2016.
